Is it harmful to leave my dog waste in the yard? As a result of their meat-based and high protein diets, dogs have acidic poop that can harm grass. Although the waste decomposes, the dangerous bacteria, viruses, and parasites that exist within the stool linger in the soil and can disperse to other places through rainfall and foot traffic. This spreading of dog waste can pollute waterways, promote weed growth, and infect both humans and pets with harmful parasites that cause sickness.
